Video… Part II: The Music Videos (so far)…

2002The Groovie Ghoulies“Til Death Do Us Party” (2:39) – I was behind the scenes as one of the two door grips (I think Drew Perez, who was also inside the “Mr. Alien” costume and did character voices and writing was the other unseen doorman). Directed by Joe Gillis.

Using the sets of the Net-Raider spaceship, our director for the Net-Raiders pilot footage also directed a couple of music videos for the Sacramento-spawned pop punk band The Groovie Ghoulies (1983-2007 and with different line-ups aside from frontman/lead singer Kepi, but the trio depicted in the above video and the two linked below was the finale band line-up and lasted the longest).

Odin Abbott, who was our main set constructor for Net-Raiders also appears in “Til Death Do Us Party” as the Darth Vader-ish invader who battles the Ghoulies. Odin is also “Bigfoot” in The Groovie Ghoulies video “Running With Bigfoot”.

As I remember, the three videos didn’t get a lot of TV airplay in the U.S., but DID air overseas, where The Ghoulies are also quite popular! Sadly, The Groovie ones disbanded in 2007, but leadman Kepi rocks on solo style as Kepi Ghoulie.

“Til Death Do Us Party” video director Joe Gillis also helmed two additional music videos for The Groovie Ghoulies (though I didn’t work on either or them): “Running With Bigfoot” (2:35) and a punkish cover of the Herman’s Hermits’ song  “Don’t Go Out Into the Rain (You’re Gonna Melt)” (2:01).

Having met them for the “Til Death Do US Party” video shoot and getting their two latest twin albums Go! Stories and Monster Club, introduced me to their music and thoughts of including some of their songs in a future movie series that I was already heavy into developing back in 2002… Stay tuned!

2010Seven Foot Fetish – “One Last Time” (4:24) and “Heretic” (3:30) – Cameo appearance as a bar patron/concert goer (back turned, with different clothes and hair pulled back into a ponytail with my Skywalker Ranch hat on as to not be mistaken for my main character in The Undoing – that of the “Wino Bum” – who was going to be revealed to be a much more important character in the two sequels…).

Culled from footage from The Undoing and actually performed by Trevor R. Todd from his 2007 album Scathing Indictment of the Righteous, Trevor, his drummer at the time, Greg Halldorson (who also acted in the movie as …”Jessie’s” drummer!) are joined by actors Cory Ponzo (“Jude”) and Steve Wiedel (“Peter”) as guitarists for the fictional band Retro Vertigo and the lip-syncing/play-syncing fun for the concert footage in the film.

Collectively, the footage from The Undoing was directed by myself (mostly some of the bits used in the flashes in-between the concert footage), included scenes directed by Trevor R. Todd and Director of Photography/first editor Mike Bustillos (who directed the concert footage seen in “One Last Time”, which was shot inside Marilyn’s on K.

There was another video created from The Undoing footage, also primarily from the concert footage at Marilyn’s on K – the moody rock groove “Heretic”. Both of these two music videos appear on the 2010 DVD release of The Undoing. Both music videos were edited by David Perkins.

For my own upcoming flicks, I intend to create music videos, but for now, the above is what has been…

But –

there is one more past video-type appearance flowing from the past…

Possibly, a most dubious, nay, dare I say, likely a most heinous one…! (and NOT because I was in it (or Bill & Ted for that matter! *ha!* “heinous” and most bogus!), rather ’cause of the tack taken by the director of a certain documentary that was crafted to alter reality towards a more controversial bent – one that was not needed for the subject!).

VIDDY-OHs! – Part III awaits your patronage…
